What happens when a longtime Philadelphia-area musician is challenged by a friend and fellow local musician, a huge surf music fan, to write and record new material in that specific genre? You get the Surf Six EP, half a dozen original songs performed by Into the Soup, featuring multi-instrumentalist I Am Winkle (aka Mark Minassian), and his alter-ego Winkle brother bandmates: Benny (bass), Lenny (lead guitar), Robby (rhythm guitar), and Denny (drums).
Bringing the same accessibility, hooks and skilled production as I Am Winkle’s previous work through the years in the retro-pop, smooth jazz, blues, folk, rock and singer-songwriter genres, Surf Six blends the feel of instrumental surf music legends like The Ventures and Dick Dale with a nouveau surf sound. Each song is distinct, yet a common musical thread weaves through the entire EP. Old is new and new is old. As the band is apt to say, "Surf's up, surf's on!" Enjoy the ride!
